GERMAN FILM FESTIVAL @ META HOUSE

Dear Friends, Colleagues, Art & Film Fans!

We are pleased to invite for the opening of our
GERMAN FILM FESTIVAL @ META HOUSE
in cooperation with Goethe Institute Jakarta
on Thursday, 2nd of August, 7PM – FREE ADMISSION.

We are screening the highly accclaimed German feature film
STATUS YO (2004, German O-Version with English Subtitles) from the streets of Berlin: In the course of one day and one night we experience an enraged father, an embarrassing video shoot with a bitchy pop star, a violent brother, a sister in love and her desperate boyfriend, dangerous beef with weird drug dealers, the biggest party in town, the best break dancers and the coolest fistfight in the history of movies: AND, OF COURSE, A WHOLE LOT OF MUSIC!!!!

Please be our guest – also for the following features and documentaries, that represent the best of German contemporary filmmaking.

Feature film: An impressive biopic directed by Martin Weinhart, starring Matthias Schweighoefer in a brilliant performance about the famous poet and thinker

Documentary about an exceptional couple entangled in the political systems of the 20th century – featuring American folk singer Pete Seeger. Director: Sissi Huetlin and Britta Wauer

Documentary film about Ludwig and Leopold Wolf, two of the most popular entertainers in Hamburg in the early 20th century. A descendant from the USA, hip hop musician and rapper, follows their tracks. Director: Jens Huckeriede
Saturday, 11/08/07, 7 PM “SCHULZE GETS THE BLUES
Feature Film and a “tender piece of cross culturalism”. East German Schultze is a quiet man, recently retired, who suddenly discovers the beauty of zydeco music. Director: Michael Schorr

Meta House (educational & art) projects with/for the Cambodian youth – THE
PEACE PROJECT, the Khmer Hip Hop Team OVC and the VIDEO WORKSHOP/CLASS

HEAVEN'S MEADOW
BAAN GERDA is the first children's village in Thailand where HIV-positive
orphans find again a family and a future. They receive the life-prolonging
ARV. "Heaven's Meadow" by German director Detlev Neufert is a moving
documentary about hope – even if there is no cure for AIDS yet. Could BAAN
GERDA become a future model for other countries such as Cambodia????

VIDEOPOSTCARDS (NOT ONLY) FROM CAMBODIA
Authentic and amazing: Asian kids record their lifes, wishes and dreams
within the VIDEO POSTCARDS project (facilitated by Darren Swallow): A rugby
team from the Stug Mean Chey dumpsite in Phnom Penh, members of the
circus/art school "Phare Ponleu Selapak" from Battambang meet children from
the "Joshua project" in India….

YPD is an NGO which focuses on the education and encouragement of young
people to contribute to local, regional and world development through
innovation and shared ideas.

Young people from around the world (France, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines,
Laos, Thailand, India, Bangladesh, Japan, Sweden to name a
few) will be collaborating to produce a show involving dancing, music and
singing.

The purpose of the event is to raise money for the local YPD team whilst
simultaneously building solidarity through intercultural
awareness, and of course have lots of fun at the same time!

It will be a fabulous evening, so make sure you join us!

Tickets will be on sale at Gasolina, or can be purchased on the door for $3.
