TUES, 27/01, 6 PM SAVE THE NATURE!
Deforestation and the resulting soil erosion cause significant environmental problems in Cambodia. International and Cambodian filmmakers join hands to create public awareness. See the works of Jocelyn and Ben Pederick (PREY LONG), Estelle Dorides (CAMBODIANA), Allan Michaud (SERENGETI OF ASIA) and inform yourself about the next Environmental Film Festival 2009.
WED, 28/01, 6PM THE NEW KHMER KIDZ
The exceptional situation of children in Cambodia due to the long period of war, isolation and chaos has made life difficult for those most vulnerable. A big number of NGOs are focusing on their upbringing. International filmmakers document their efforts. Watch their short docs (such as DEY KRAHOM by Eric Lofting) tonite at MH and get to know representatives of different NGOs for kids.
THUR, 29/01, 6PM BARAKA & DOGORA
Without words, cameras show us the world, with an emphasis not on "where," but on "what's there." BARAKA (6PM) by Ron Fricke features a number of long tracking shots, including one through Tuol Sleng in Cambodia. Patrice Leconte's DOGORA (8PM) is clearly inspired by Fricke's masterpiece: It captures the daily routines of the people of Cambodia. Your imagination must answer any questions you may have…
FRI, 30/01, 6 PM CAMBODIAN LIVING ARTS
Cambodian Living Arts (a project of the NGO World Education) works to support the revival of traditional Khmer performing arts and to inspire contemporary artistic expression.
