THU, 25/06, 7 PM DOGORA & BARAKA
Without words, cameras show us the world, with an emphasis not on "where",
but on
"what's there": Patrice Leconte's DOGORA captures the daily routines of Khmer
people. It is clearly inspired by Ron Fricke's masterpiece BARAKA, which
alsofeatures a number of long tracking shots, including one through
S-21/Tuol Sleng.

FRI, 26/06, 7 PM IL DIVO
Filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino tells the story of Italian Prime Minister Giulio
Andreotti, who has been accused of collusion with the Mafia. The biopic was
nominated for the Palme D'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008, where it
was
awarded the Prix du Jury. (2008, 110 min.)

SAT, 27/06, 7 PM NEW SOUNDZ FOR PHNOM PENH
This doc shows four examples of initiatives aiming at a revival of Cambodia's
musical life: PHNOM PENH GOES BAROQUE & PHNOM PENH LIVE (in coop. with Goethe
Institute/Art Plus Foundation) and the best of NU CAMBODIAN INDIE VIDEOS.

SUN, 28/06, 7 PM TYSON by James Toback
TYSON (2008, 90 min.) is acclaimed US indie director James Toback's
stylistically
inventive portrait of a mesmerizing box champion Mike Tyson. Toback allows
Tyson to
reveal himself without inhibition and with eloquence and a pervasive
vulnerability.
Through a mixture of original interviews and archival footage and
photographs, a
startlingly complex, fully-rounded human being emerges.

MON, 29/06, 7 PM SURPRISE FILM

"I Ain’t Leavin’ "

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

For the better part of a year, a diverse crew of six young filmmakers
spent their afternoons and weekends making a documentary film about
Cambodians growing up in the impoverished Oak Park Apartments in the San
Antonio District of East Oakland, home to many recent immigrants. The
20-minute film, I Ain't Leavin', describes the youth's struggle for
balance and security in a neighborhood where residents cope with gangs on
one hand and neighborhood gentrification on the other.
