Visual Anthropology has long advocated the value of images as primary sources documents. This presentation will show pictures taken during field work conducted among Chams in Cambodia, in an attempt to start an ethnographic description. Using both photographic and ethnographic experiences – as an undivided methodology – the slideshow will outline the variations and diversity within the “Cham Community”, despite the usually black and white image of a monochrome community.

FINAL CALL — albb Open Studio 2010

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Final call for proposals:
A window until the rains come: albb Open Studio program 2010
application deadline: Tues 15 Dec, 2009

This project is open to visual artists, photographers, designers, architects, musicians and other creative people who want to share their work and their thoughts on creativity in an unusual, interactive way.

In a bustling part of downtown Ho Chi Minh City, a 2nd-floor cafe will be turned into a flexible, open, creative studio. While participating artists go about their daily creation, members of the general public can drop by at any time to watch, chat or perhaps even take part.  Unexpected friendships and relationships may form, new thoughts on creativity emerge, as everyday worlds and artistic worlds meet.

For artists living overseas or in other parts of Vietnam, this is a flexible and alternative way to do something here, right in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City.

Please kindly forward this email to anyone who you feel would be interested in participating in this project.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Tuesday 15 Dec, 2009

Click link for detailed project information and the application form.

A little blah blah (albb)

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

A little blah blah (albb) is an artists’ initiative that since 2005 has operated as a platform for contemporary art through a wide range of channels including projects, exhibitions & events, screenings, talks, a residency program, internships and an open-access archive of art books & catalogues. Our program has evolved in a pioneering spirit, in response to the gaps and needs of the Saigon art scene. Since 2008 albb has re-focussed its program to presenting one major project each year, capacity building, and the ongoing running of albb Reading Room.

Please see our weblog for a detailed history of our activities.
