National University of Singapore @ Bukit Timah Campus        The World History Association’s annual meeting in Minneapolis, June 26-28, 2013 focuses on (but is not limited to) the dual themes of “Diasporas and Refugees in World History” and “Roads, Trails, and Rivers in World History.” For those interested, the deadline for papers and panels had been extended to February 28. Marc J. Gilbert: “As I am president of the association, I would hope to be able to insure at least the closest consideration of your submissions. Do not be deterred by old-fashion ideas about world history: refugees or the displaced are major theme of that field, so that the exploration of any current refugee issue that relates it to global patterns is appropriate.”  For details, go to:

Dear Friends of Meta House!

Tonight, Wed 13, from 6PM, we invite you
to the exhibition opening APSARA 2013

Apsara Dance is particularly inspired by the style from the Angkor Wat statues. Teang “Din” Borin opens his new exhibit APSARA 2013, presenting a contemporary take on traditional imagery.

At 8PM Khmer Arts Ensemble presents a video recording of Sophiline Cheam Shapiro’s dance piece LIVES OF GIANTS – a modern retelling of an episode from the Reamker epic, featuring a much-abused giant who wreaks havoc in heaven when given power of his own.

Please visit us for the VAGINA MONOLOGUES theatre performances from Thursday 14 to Saturday 16, 7PM. Admission: 7 USD.

The premiere party on the 14th, from 8.30PM features features screenings of TWO GIRLS AGAINST THE RAIN, FEMALE POLITICS and other Cambodian short docus (Engl. subs); X-PAT SOUND SYSTEM presents DJANE TEIA ROGERS. FREE ENTRANCE!
